Victorian floor tile restoration
If you are fortunate enough to have lifted an old carpet to find an original Victorian tiled floor underneath then good for you as the dusty old tiles you are now looking at are worth a fair amount of money and if looked after will last another 100 years.
The Victorian’s knew how to build with style, the entrance hallway would often demonstrate the attention to detail this kind of property could boast throughout.
Tiles were now being fabricated in factories on a mass scale thus bringing the price down making it affordable even for more humble properties of this era to enjoy a tiled entrance hallway.
Tiles soon became the most popular choice based on its decorative aspects and durability.
The customer would be presented with a brochure showing tile layouts in various colours ranging from a basic chequerboard to a more intricate layout that could consist of hundreds of tiles per square metre. As a rule of thumb the more tiles per square metre the more the design might cost to purchase.
In future blogs I will be going into more detail how these amazing floors are restored and maintained.
